Marcuclius

fl. 19 May 303 (death unrecorded) · Subdeacon of Cirta · Cirta (Constantina), Numidia

The Ante-Nicene Church

Who Marcuclius was

Subdeacon of Cirta, and one of the two men who refused outright. Ordered to name the lectors, he and Catullinus answered that they were subdeacons and did not know where the lectors lived; ordered to give the names anyway, they made a distinction the Latin turns on — they might hand over books, but they would not hand over men. Felix had them taken into custody.

Verified single attestation

Named once, in the Gesta apud Zenophilum — the Cirta records of 19 May 303 and 13 December 320; no other ancient source names him.
