The Apostolic Age
Who Artemas was
“When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis” — one of the two trusted men considered to relieve Titus in Crete so the delegate could winter with Paul. A contracted form of Artemidorus, “gift of Artemis”: a pagan theophoric name carried into the church’s service. Later lists make him bishop of Lystra.
Titus 3:12 only; the Lystra episcopate belongs to the late pseudo-Dorothean lists, outside the horizon.
