Who Judas of Jerusalem was
The fifteenth and final bishop of the Jerusalem church of the circumcision, whose episcopate ended with Hadrian’s crushing of the Bar Kokhba revolt in 135. When the emperor barred all Jews from the refounded Aelia Capitolina, “the church there was composed of Gentiles,” Eusebius records, “and Marcus was the first of the Gentiles to be their bishop.” With Judas, the direct Hebrew succession from James the Just came to its close.
