Who Zacchaeus of Caesarea was
A deacon of the church of Gadara, tortured on the rack and executed at Caesarea with the reader Alphaeus in the first November of the Great Persecution — the pair beheaded on one day after refusing the fourfold demand to sacrifice. Eusebius, who lived through it in that city, set their names at the head of his martyrology of Palestine. Distinct from the early bishop Zacchaeus of Jerusalem.
