The Nicene Age
Who Latronianus was
A Spanish poet 'worthy to be compared with the ancients,' Jerome concedes — and one of the six beheaded at Trier with Priscillian when Magnus Maximus turned a church quarrel into a capital case: the first Christians executed for heresy by a Christian state, over Martin of Tours's protest. His verse is lost; his name survives as a line in the age's darkest precedent.
