Who Hesychius of Majuma was
Hilarion's most devoted disciple, who searched the harbours and deserts of the East three years for his master when the old man fled his own fame, found him at last in Sicily by a rumour of miracles, and followed him to the Cypriot crag where he died. The Life's last act is his: feigning a wish to garden the site, Hesychius stole the body ten months buried — found incorrupt, Jerome says, fragrant as if anointed — and carried it home to Majuma at peril of Cypriot fury.
