This is where most of the archive’s episcopal record actually lives. The six great sees have famous succession lists; these are the men who appear once in a synodal roster, or in the address of somebody else’s letter, and are otherwise unrecorded.

The bishops of Rome, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem, Constantinople and Carthage are not here — they have their own succession lists.
